Where does an artist’s inspiration come from?

ree

It’s hard to say where an artist takes inspiration from, mainly because every artist is unique and so is the source of her/his inspiration.

But is much more than a common place the fact that when artists are in bad mood - although sadness, melancholy, anger and so on, aren’t ever considered negatively - they tend to produce more and to download, into their verses and music, all the inner world of sensations, feelings and emotions they felt or that are still experiencing.

Therefore, music - and in particular each song - it is a sort of container in which the life of every single band or singer-songwriter has been enclosed, even if many times musicians are only performers, just like actors on stage or in movies, capable to give life to an endless series of different characters.

In the case of my song “America is in you”, the inspiration came from staying in the U.S.A. for three months some years ago.

After talking to many people living there, I understood that their main strength was (and is) their self-esteem combined with a really strong belief in their ideas and in their skills as well.

So, the true treasure of Americans lies in themselves instead of their giant Country, rich of mineral resources, corporations, technology and many other things.

Of course human capital is essential to get everything working properly in this world but the difference, for instance, between the European and the American mentality is not a legend.

And there, in the United States, I found that magical mix of human qualities which drew my attention, since the day I landed in Los Angeles.

It is like if there, for example, from the taxi driver to the fashion designer, from the film director to the restaurant waitress or from the magazine editor to the hotel receptionist, everybody developed a sense of belonging and a healthy pride able to nourish their dream of happiness, of success, of freedom.

I was so impressed by what I heard and saw, not only in LA but in San Francisco, Las Vegas and New York too, that I eventualIy decided to get all that stuff down in lyrics!

Because I felt I needed to share that significant experience with other people.

And doing so, encourage them to take the important inner trip leading us to unveil the great force and power the most of us keep unconsciously concealed for the whole life.

And only for the simple reason that few of us are aware of having it and accept the idea in itself…
